So last year I (Amanda) had the absolutely pleasure of flying to Hawaii to photograph a client's wedding. I had known this family for several years and photographed their son Aidenn at a previous mall portrait studio that I managed. I was thrilled for Kristine & Thomas when they decided to officially get married and even more ecstatic that I was going to be a part of their special day, well week really.
My mom decided that I needed an assistant on this trip so she came along. It was such an amazing trip for the both of us, the White family and their close friends. Before the wedding, we discovered and became slightly obsessed with a local coffee house called Lava Java. The place has local musician perform on the patio and the store is opened up to the amazing view of the water. Not to mention the food is to die for!
I think I went to Lava Java at least once a day. It's probably the reason I came back 10 lbs heavier! I did try a bunch of native fruits too. I don't think I had one bad meal in Hawaii.
I have to be honest, before this wedding I had only photographed a few weddings, and they definitely weren't my favorite. However, I LOVED this family and I knew they would love my work so I was very excited to be part of this experience with them. Kristine planned this wedding while living in NC but it surely didn't show. Every detail was beautiful from the local flowers to her dress, the venue and even their shoes.
The ceremony was short and sweet, emphasis on sweet. Thomas and Kristine incorporated local culture by having a lei ceremony during their wedding. Their son Aidenn was absolutely adorable and so excited for his parents.
We had a fun reception immediately after the ceremony where the couple shared their first dance as husband and wife. Kristine also shared dances with her father and son. We ate brunch and even shared some cake....in the face!
After the reception there were a few hours of relaxation before their true celebration, the luau!! This was probably the best reception I've ever seen. So much delicious local food, hula dancers and hot fire breathing men!!
As if the wedding day wasn't absolutely amazing in itself the day after we had a brunch at Snorkel Beach. Their were massive, adorable turtles, great food and the best company.
We also went snorkeling by the Captain Cook Monument. The trip was amazing and was by far my favorite 'job' ever! I met new friends and enjoyed the week with my mom. It was my first time snorkeling and I think I did okay. The fish were so beautiful and plentiful.
Kona was the best place ever to work and vacation. I can't wait to go back! So until next time Hawaii!!
The best part is the Whites moved to Kona just a few months after their wedding. Can't wait to see them and the island again soon.
